There are many MTG kids who have not received the assignments for their participation in the international math competitions abroad, of which most are scheduled in July 2012 for a simple reason of incorrect or no email address/contact numbers.

In order for MTG Philippines to deal with your inquiries properly, then this email address has been made available mtg.mostp@yahoo.com. All concerns about your assignment and other related matters regarding your participation in the international math contest should be send to the given email address. The MTG Philippines regrets to inform to everyone that it may not be able to answer your inquiries if they are sent to other email addresses.

The MTG staffs have always been unsuccessful in their countless attempts to send the email or to contact the parents and MTG kid because of wrong or no email address/contact numbers.

For those qualifiers and alternates who have not received the assignment as to what contest to join, please email us the following details on or before 12 noon of May 28, 2012:

The University of New South Wales Educational Assessment Australia (EAA) through the MTG, Philippines will be conducting the 2012 International Competitions and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) -Mathematics on August 11, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. in various venues across the country.

This contest aims to gauge or assess five strands:

Number and Arithmetic:

• This strand involves types of numbers, their properties and operations on numbers. The strand has strong links with Measures & Units, Algebra & Patterns and Chance & Data. It also has some links with Space & Geometry.

Algebra and Patterns:

• This strand involves patterns of numbers, relationships between numbers and the use of symbols to stand for unknown or variable numbers.

Measures and Units:

• This strand involves properties of the physical world that can be measured, the units used to measure them and the process of measurement.

Space and Geometry:

• This strand involves the properties of two-dimensional and three-dimensional space.

Chance and Data:

• This strand involves mathematical treatment of data and statistics.

The ICAS-Mathematics participants must bring a pencil- 2B or B (not Pen) and an eraser during the competition. Bringing of dictionaries, mobile phones, pagers and other personal electronic devices are strictly prohibited in the contest. Students must have a ruler marked in millimeters (mm). The participants are expected to be in their complete school uniform.

Below are the corresponding contest booklet (paper) classification and the allotted time for the following grade/year levels:

Papers A, B, C, D and E

• Calculators are not permitted.
• Formal algebra is not tested: the emphasis is on pattern, structure and puzzles
• Formal geometry is not tested (except for a small amount in Paper E): the emphasis is spatial skills.

Papers F, G, H

• Calculators are required.
• Formal algebra is tested and students are expected to be familiar with some conventions of algebra.
• Formal geometry is tested and students are expected to be familiar with some conventions of geometry.

The University of New South Wales Educational Assessment Australia (EAA) through the MTG, Philippines will be conducting the 2012 International Competitions and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) -English on July 28, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in various venues across the country.

This contest aims to gauge or assess their reading and language skills. In ICAS-English, reading and language skills are assessed in a ranged of texts. The participants are required to locate, identify, interpret, infer and synthesize information in and about texts, focusing on the aspects of reading for meaning in literary texts, reading for meaning in factual texts, textual devices, syntax and vocabulary.

The competition will be at a maximum of 60 minutes focusing on the aspects of reading for meaning in literary texts, reading for meaning in factual texts, textual devices, syntax and vocabulary.

The ICAS-English participants must bring a pencil- 2B or B (not Pen) and an eraser during the competition. Bringing of dictionaries, thesaurus, mobile phones, pagers and other personal electronic devices are strictly prohibited in the contest. The participants are expected to be in their complete school uniform.
