Close to 1000 Pinoy kids join the ICAS-English 2010

The University of New South Wales Educational Assessment Australia (EAA) through the MTG, Philippines will be conducting the 2010 International Competitions and Assessment for Schools (ICAS)-English on August 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in various venues across the country.

The ICAS – English assesses reading and language skills in a range of contexts. The following aspects of texts are assessed and reported: reading for meaning in literary texts, reading for meaning in factual texts, textual devices, syntax and vocabulary. The questions require students to locate, identify, interpret, infer and synthesize information in and about texts.

Students read a variety of texts which narrate, describe, explain, argue, persuade and review. The types of texts include extracts from novels, short stories, poems, play scripts, transcripts of interviews, letters, diary entries, advertisements, webpages, reports and explanations, opinion pieces and reviews. These texts may include tables, diagrams, maps and other visual information.

This year, a close to 1000 Filipino students from 44 schools nationwide will join the thousand other contestants in the world who will simultaneously take part in the said competition.
